The Champions League final of 2016 is upon us, and think couldn't be more interesting than they are now. The San Siro plays host to a repeat of the 2014 final, as the two Madrid sides come up against each other. Will Real triumph again or will Diego Simeone's men finally taste Champions League glory?

What better way to finish the football season than a Madrid derby in the Champions League final? Nobody could've forgotten the events of the rollercoaster of a football match that was the 2014 final. Atletico's Diego Godin headed his side to a 1-0 lead in the first half, and for a long time it looked like Atletico were going to get their hands on the trophy for the very first time. However, disaster struck in the form of a stoppage-time equalizer from Sergio Ramos. After that, it was all Real as they coasted to the Decima with a 4-1 win in extra-time.

Atletico simply ran out of gas that time out, as players tired and manager Diego Simeone was already out of subs. Now it will be fascinating to see what Simeone and the whole team have learnt from that defeat in the final. Atletico's style of play is without a doubt the most energy-consuming out of the UCL-elite, and time and time again they've started to look more and more tired as the second half nears it's end. It's most likely that the same is going to happen in the final, so it's paramount for Atletico that they have the legs to fight for the whole 90 minutes, and perhaps even beyond.

Despite their constantly tired-looking legs, Atletico have time and time again proved that Simeone's tactics work. They've knocked out both Barcelona and Bayern Munich from this year's competition after some ferocious performances. Before the season started, both Barca and Bayern were hailed as favourites to win the trophy and Atletico disposed of them both. Why couldn't they therefore manage it against their local rivals?

Real's route to the final has been far easier, although Los Blancos did struggle against Bundesliga-side Wolfsburg in the quarter-finals. Their opponents have been at least a caliber below Atletico until now. However, this doesn't mean that Real haven't played well - they've been especially solid in defence. Apart from the 2-0 defeat at Wolfsburg in the first leg, they haven't conceded a single goal in the knockout-stages of this season's Champions League.

The final features two teams that are both physically and mentally strong. Real boss Zinedine Zidane hasn't only lifted Real's performance levels, but also their confidence and mental strength considerably in a very short time. Simeone has a more direct approach, as he uses his leadership skills and fantastic spirit to coach otherworldly performances out of his players. However, this can potentially be a bad thing for Atletico if they go overboard and pick up a red card.

The plot of the final is already pretty clear as we speak. Real will control the ball, while Atletico will tackle and grab shirts, constantly looking for the chance to hit Real on the break. This will be a stern test for Real's defence, as Atletico are without a doubt one of the best counter-attacking sides in Europe. Like Premier League champions Leicester, they seem to have a knack of creating a first class opportunity from every counter-attack they get. Simeone will surely do all he can to keep the amount of goals as low as possible, just like he's done in the previous rounds. If Atletico can achieve this, their chances of winning the trophy will increase tenfold. Last time their game-plan got them just a couple of minutes away...

But yes, the tips! A lot of goals can't be expected, as Atletico are not going to give in an inch. As the game is also a local rivalry, yellow and even red cards will surely make an appearance as sparks will undoubtedly fly. Diego Simeone's men are one of the most physical sides in Europe, so they'll be doing all they can to bend the rules.

Real haven't managed to defeat Atletico this season, so the Rojiblancos have a slight mental edge going into the match. Los Blancos also have some injury worries, so betting on Atletico is more than just an attractive option. Let's try some more unconvential bets on the side as well!
