19:45 Bayern Munich - Atletico Madrid

First leg: Atletico Madrid - Bayern Munich 1-0

Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid have been showered with praise in recent weeks, and for good reason. Atletico's confidence is sky-high, and when you combine that with their ferocious fighting spirit, they could well be heading towards greatness this season. On Tuesday they have a chance of claiming only their third place in the final in the history of the Champions League/European Cup. However, Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich will surely have a thing or two to say about it.

Atletico barely scraped a 1-0 victory at home due to a Saul Niguez wondergoal. Although Bayern had most of the possession, Atletico's defence held firm and kept the Germans at bay. When Bayern did manage to create good chances to put the ball past Jan Oblak, their finishing was lacking. Atletico were in fact closer to scoring a second than Bayern even once, but Fernando Torres' effort bounced back off the post.

Bayern won the first leg's possession stats 69%-31%, while they also led the way in shots 19-11. However, in terms of shots on target the difference was only slim, with Atletico's five shots to Bayern's seven a demonstration of the Spanish side's prowess when they do get chances. Even though they play with a game-plan which aims to frustrate opponents, the Spaniards' counter-attacks can be devastating. Simeone's men seem especially adept at creating dangerous scoring chances on the break, while they also have the capability to make a goal out of nothing, as Saul Niguez so deftly demonstrated last week.

Bayern's players were clearly frustrated at the Vicente Calderon in the first leg, a rare sight this season. Bayern's attacking play is normally up there with the world's best, but somehow Atletico managed to keep all of Bayern's star names quiet in Spain. The Bavarian's form has been slightly below-par recently, a good example of this being the weekend draw against Mönchengladbach, from which a win would've been enough to seal the Bundesliga title.

In terms of injuries tho hosts will be missing long-term absentees Holger Badstuber and Arjen Robben, while Franck Ribery is a doubt after missing the match against Mönchengladbach due to a back problem. Atletico on the other hand will be welcoming Diego Godin and Yannick Carrasco back with open arms after both players were injured for the first leg.

Atletico have gone an impressive six matches in a row without conceding. Bayern need to put this run to an end if they have plans of calling their season anything put a failure. However, at the same time they must be wary of Atletico striking on the break, as an away goal would mean Bayern would need three goals to progress. A tight-fought match can therefore be expected, with no team willing to risk too much offensively out of fear of conceding. This is the first time this season that Guardiola's men have their backs against the wall, so it'll be interesting to see how they'll react.

Bayern's last five matches:

30.4.2016 Bayern - Mönchengladbach 1-1

27.4.2016 Atletico - Bayern 1-0

23.4.2016 Hertha - Bayern 0-2

19.4.2016 Bayern - Bremen 2-0

16.4.2016 Bayern - Schalke 3-0

Atletico's last five matches:

30.4.2016 Atletico - Vallecano 1-0

27.4.2016 Atletico -Bayern 1-0

23.4.2016 Atletico - Malaga 1-0

20.4.2016 Bilbao - Atletico 0-1

17.4.2016 Atletico - Granada 3-0

Simeone's men succeeded in nullifying Bayern once, now they have to do it again. Their task will be harder due to the fact that at home Bayern are even more dangerous, a fact that for instance Juventus learned the hard way. The odds for Atletico have taken a downswing, while favourites Bayern are becoming a realistic option to add to our betting plans for Tuesday.
