14 JUNE - EURO 2016 BETTING PREVIEW: CAN ICELAND STOP RONALDO?

User Rating: 0 / 5

Monday's Euro-tips fared rather well, as three out of our four tips were successful. The best one was without a doubt the ***-star gem of over 1.5 goals in Ireland-Sweden. Tuesday doesn't quite have the same offering as yesterday, but we do have a couple of ideas!

Tuesday's Euro-schedule features only two games. We've added a couple of special bets to our tips, but don't bet on all of them! Choose a couple of your personal favourites, or place your bets on the ones marked with stars, as they are significantly better than the ones without any.

EURO 2016 BETTING TIPS & PREVIEWS

17:00 AUSTRIA - HUNGARY

The history books have an interesting story to tell about the clashes between these two sides, as Austria have only managed to beat the Hungarians once in 11 meetings - and that solitary victory was back in 1934! However, this time out the Austrians are coming into the match as clear favourites.

Austria went through the qualifiers without suffering a single defeat, and they also managed to score the most goals (22) and concede the least (5) out of their group in the process. Their defence and attack look to be in good balance. Their almost 2-meter tall striker Marc Janko has been in fine form in front of goal, as the monster of a man has bagged 22 goals this season, seven of which came in the qualifiers! Another strong player for Austria going forward is Stoke City's Marko Arnautovic, who's hit 14 goals from the wing.

Hungary reached the Euros with a modest goal difference of 11-9, so no fireworks are to be expected at the finals either. Their lacklustre front-line is headed by Balázs Dzsudzsák, who has an immense responsibility in both creating chances and finishing them. Austria have defended so well in recent months that we're not expecting the Hungarians to get a lot of chances.

A thing to note about the Hungarian defence is that many of them seem to pick up a lot of yellow cards. Attila Fiola (9 yel. 1 red), Tamas Kadar (9 yel.), Roland Juhasz (10 yel. 1 red) and Richard Gusmics (10 yel. 1 red) have all picked up their fair share of bookings, and as Austria are the more likely team to keep possession more of the same can be expected.

Special bets:

Goalscorer: Janko 5/4 Betsafe

Goalscorer: Arnautovic 2/1 Betsafe

* Hungary to get over 2.5 yellow cards: 19/20 Betsafe

* Over 4.5 yellow cards in total 13/10 Betsafe

Austria's friendlies before the Euros:

4.6.2016 Austria - the Netherlands 0-2

20.5.2016 Austria - Malta 2-1

Hungary's friendlies before the Euros:

4.6.2016 Germany - Hungary 2-0

20.5.2016 Hungary - Ivory Coast 0-0

BETTING TIP

Austria are clear favourites for the win. Hungary can defend well, but going forward they don't offer much. A low-scoring match would therefore not be a surprise. The best idea for betting is without a doubt a simple win for Austria.

20:00 PORTUGAL - ICELAND

This Portugal-side that suffered one defeat in the qualifiers is capable of some amazing attacking play. Their ability was showcased in their final friendly against Estonia, and although the opposition wasn't the toughest, Portugal's attacks were more than a pleasure to behold. As expected, most of their attacks run through superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, but on the other wing Ricardo Quaresma has also shown his quality in the friendlies. He also compliments Ronaldo's performances, so you'd think his place in the starting eleven is secure.

Iceland have been billed by many as the potential dark horse of the tournament due to their impressive form in the qualifiers. On the other hand, major tournaments are a completely different thing, and in a new situation the pressure could get to them. However, all the expectations are on Portugal's shoulders on Tuesday, as Iceland have nothing to lose.

Portugal conceded five times in the qualifiers, while Iceland let in six. We expect Iceland to carry on with their defensive tactics, and if they succeed, we could be in for a low-scoring game. However, Portugal have so much talent going forward that they can create a goal out of nothing.

Portugal's never-say-die defenders Pepe and Bruno Alves will also entertain the crowd with their antics, as you can never be entirely sure what's going through their heads. For example, a couple of weeks ago Alves (12 yellow cards this season) lost his bearings and got sent off thanks to a karate-kick aimed at Harry Kane's head. Meanwhile, Pepe has slightly mellowed from the Pepe of a couple of seasons ago, but he has also picked up seven yellow cards this season.

Special Bets:

Goalscorer: Quaresma 23/10 Betsafe

* Yellow card: Alves 17/10 Betsafe

Yellow card: Pepe 17/10 Betsafe

Portugal's friendlies before the Euros:

8.6.2016 Portugal - Estonia 7-0

2.6.2016 England - Portugal 1-0

29.5.2016 Portugal - Norway 3-0

Iceland's friendlies before the Euros:

6.6.2016 Iceland - Liechtenstein 4-0

1.6.2016 Norway - Iceland 3-2

BETTING TIP

On paper this looks like an easy win for Portugal, but Iceland have shown they're a tough nut to crack. The Portuguese have also started to defend much better in recent years, so it's doubtful that Iceland will be celebrating on Tuesday. They will also almost certainly defend deep. The most likely result is a 1-0 or a 2-0 victory for Portugal, meaning that under 2.5 goals is a more than viable option for betting.
